Do you know what happens when you make unsubstantiated claims? You get called out for them, that’s what. That’s exactly what Priscilla Shunmugam found out when she let her mouth run off during a livestream moderated by the Asian Civilizations Museum.
What exactly did she say that set torches aflame and raised pitchforks?
She said that Chinese women have “progressed significantly faster and further as compared to their Malay and Indian counterparts”. Oh that’s not the end of it…she also talked about how Chinese women were the “first Asian women to shake hands with men”.
Finally, there’s this humdinger of a comment – “I think as a designer, I can only say that when I play around with the cheongsam, I feel not that there are less restrictions, but I can have more fun, and that Chinese women are more receptive, or they can be more receptive.”.
What’s all the more shameful is that Priscilla Shunmugam is a lecturer at the Lasalle College of the Arts. Granted it’s only as a lecturer in School of Fashion (so brains is probably not required) but still…
Understandably, the comments got the Internet riled up something fierce. Netizens (especially the women from races that don’t begin with the letter ‘C’) are especially angry.
Man or woman, they all shared one similar view; Priscilla Shunmugam is a dumbass.

There’s no other explanation that makes sense.
Most wonder how somebody so educated can be so dumb. How somebody can even say things like that without having a mountain of proof to substantiate what’s said. YOLO?
Netizens are incredulous, to put it mildly.
Many felt that if Priscilla Shunmugam had nothing to say, then she should’ve just kept her mouth shut. Or if that was too hard for her, then she should’ve shared her insipid comments privately and not on a recorded livestream.

One Netizen tried to call out Priscilla Shunmugam for her comments, but did it via logic.
He broke down the elements of her comment to rebuke them with facts.

Another commenter even provided examples of how Priscilla Shunmugam’s comments didn’t make much sense…in any context.

That’s a pretty good burn actually and showed just how thoughtless the comments by Priscilla Shunmugam were.
Here’s another one that’s pretty insightful, though it’s a bit off topic.

To be fair, even some Muslims think that way. The tudung or hijab is viewed by some as old-fashioned. It’s not just a race thing. There’s still a lot of work to be done to get the hijab to be accepted sadly.
Many also slammed Priscilla Shunmugam as a racist for what she’s said.
After all, aren’t her comments based on her opinions of races?
Doesn’t that automatically make her a racist?

Of course, with the topic being racism, the discussion inevitably goes to what the powers that be will be doing to censure her.
Some want her to be punished for her comments.

Quite a few are more realistic though, seeing as how Priscilla Shunmugam is an ‘elite’.
They think that because of that, she’ll probably get off scott free…which is looking incredibly likely as the days pass without any word of action from the police or other authorities.
Priscilla Shunmugam’s background was also dragged into the limelight with many Netizens suggesting that she’s ashamed of her Indian heritage. After all, she denigrated Indians as well as Malays.

What sort of person would do that to her own race?
Priscilla Shunmugam sniveling up to the Chinese is just another sign of Chinese Privilege, some Netizens view.
That does seem to fit the narrative, as most defenders of Priscilla Shunmugam’s actions online are all from that race.

Whether through ignorance or just trying to troll, quite a few Chinese Netizens stood with Priscilla Shunmugam.
Hell, one even tried to bring religion into the whole thing.

That’s just plain dumb because as stupid as Priscilla Shunmugam’s comments were, not one of them touched upon religion.
This bugger though, deserves special mention for his racism and inferiority complex.
It’s no wonder though, because the poor fool is from Malaysia. Yup. Case closed.

It’s terribly ironic that he uses a profile picture of Captain America, a man who stands for equality and tolerance. Bro, you might want to put a pic of the Red Skull or better yet, Hitler, since their views are more in line with what you said.
I hate to end on a sour note, so here’s something else.
Out of the hundreds of comments I waded through for this, only ONE got me laughing.

Yeah, that’s a good note to end on.
