Remember the US Capitol demonstration and subsequent storming of the building last month? Seemed like such a long time in the past didn’t it?
Hundreds took part in an illegal demonstration that left the world speechless and multiple dead in its wake. It was a horrifying attack on democracy perpetuated by one of the worst presidents in US history.
Authorities are even now still appealing to the public for information on those who took part, so that they can be brought to justice for their part.
Imagine knowing with certainty that your father was one of them.
What would you do?
I’ve been mulling it over as I write this and I certainly have no idea. Even thinking about vaccinating had me debating for a looooooooooooong time.
I’m raised by a single mother so it’s pretty easy to answer that I’d probably turn in my dad if I had to. But then again, what if it was my mom?
To some, family is everything.
That’s been reinforced to us by movies like Lilo & Stitch and the testosterone fiesta that is The Fast and The Furious movies.
I honestly don’t know if I can turn over my dad (or mom) to the cops but Jackson Reffitt did just that…and now he’s on the run from his own family because he fears they might hurt him for his actions.
That’s hardcore man.
On both sides.
It’s hardcore that Jackson Reffitt would have the moral fortitude to do what’s right, no matter what it’ll cost him personally. He doesn’t hide the fact that he snitched on his dad, which makes his actions incredibly brave.
It’s also hardcore that he has to hide from his family, who he suspects are on the warpath. Allegedly, his father warned him once that if he ever reported him to the police, he’d get him for it. In this case, he meant he’d shoot him.
I say allegedly because right now, there’s really no proof.
His family says that the dad was only joking and that his words were taken out of context. I don’t know how out context something like ‘I’d shoot you if you snitched.’ can be but that’s not for me to decide.
Either way, the guy (Jackson, not his dad) is on the lam now, reaching out to the world via his girlfriend’s handphone because his line got cut off. Due to his precariously broke situation, he’s even set up a GoFundMe page for sympathizers to donate to.
I know what Jackson did was pretty brave but if I was put in the same situation, I don’t know if I’d have the cajones to do what he did. I’d like to think that I would step up and do the same thing…but until it really comes down to the wires, that’s all it is; just talk.
