Have you been rewatching the finale of The Mandalorian season two countless times so you can enjoy the scene of Luke Skywalker’s appearance? Well, my friend, you’re not alone in performing that glorious act. But there comes a time when the video qualities of Luke on YouTube are just not good enough.
Luckily for us, Walt Disney’s streaming service Disney+ will finally launch itself in Singapore on February 23, next month. With over 500 films and 15,000 episodes of content ranging from six prominent brands such as Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, National Geographic and Star; it’s a no brainer to become a subscriber.
However, is it truly worth the extra bucks?
Is this Disney+ the way?
Let’s be frank; we have way too many subscriptions going on in our lives. Netflix is probably the most common for everyone, and it already does it’s job quite well. Then again, Disney+ does have a tailored range of content that will appeal to most of us, but it’s the pricing and details of their subscription that gives me pause.
For starters, the subscription plan for Singapore is S$11.98 per month. That figure is already more expensive than what’s being offered in the US. In the US, it’s only 6.99 USD which converts to only S$9.21 here and so, in reality, we are technically paying more for the additional content brand called STAR in the package, that no one asked.
As for the details of the subscription itself, it’s practically non-existent. Sure, we know the pricing and the content that we’ll have access to, but what about the little details? What kind of video quality do we have access to and how many screens can use Disney+ with one account?
Netflix has made it clear with their subscription plans, so it’s troubling to see that Disney+ has yet to reveal those. Right now, all we can do is to wait until the service releases and see if it’s what it says it is.
