Snowstorm in Japan traps more than a thousand people on a highway.

Traffic jams are a true mind-numbing experience, and if you think you’ve had it worse, then you haven’t seen anything yet.

A heavy snowstorm that began on Wednesday started clogging up traffic on the Kanetsu Expressway connecting Tokyo and Niigata prefectures.

On Thursday, things took a turn for the worse, when a car got stuck in the middle of the highway. And as a result, by nightfall, all traffic had been halted in a jam that stretched as long as 9 miles. More than 1000 people were stuck and had to spend the night with the raging snowstorm.

As of Friday, efforts are still being made to clear up the congestion, but the attempt is progressing slowly.
