Tourism is probably the most affected industry in all countries due to the pandemic, including Singapore.
To overcome its losses, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has taken up a rather expensive endeavour to boost tourism. The S$320 million SingapoRediscovers campaign will see to that every Singaporean aged 18 and above receives vouchers worth of S$100 that can be spent on local attractions and hotels.
The only downside of this brilliant initiative is that it can only be redeemed at five approved platforms: Changi Recommends, Trip.com, Klook, GlobalTix and Traveloka.
Honestly, this defeats the purpose of boosting tourism since you’re restricted to five platforms that are deliberately more expensive due to having the option of using the vouchers. It just becomes a cycle of giving and taking.
It’s quite frankly cheaper to book local tours and attractions directly from the merchants if you want to pay a visit.
The SingapoRediscovers campaign vouchers can only be redeemed via Singpass from December 1 and will be valid till the end of June 2021.
